The rin bowl is one of the many origin stories of the Tibetan singing bowl. This is a Chinese or Japanese singing bowl or Buddha bowl, also known as a standing bell or temple bell. They can also be called rin gongs.
The standing bell originated in China. The reason why it’s called a standing bell or resting bell is because it’s considered an inverted bell. They are made in a wide range of sizes and shaped like a bowl. They are often played by striking the side. They do not run the mallet around the sides of the bowl.
In Buddhist religious practices, this bowl is used during meditation and chanting, along with wooden frogs. Sound healers use these bowls for meditation, relaxation, healing and personal spirituality.
They are played by striking the side of the bowl.
